ASPEN, COLORADO The Pearl Residence is a simple modern house within the very diverse west end neighborhood of Aspen. The timeless exterior materials are a play on texture and reflection; while the glass openings are a play on solidity and openness. The floor plan is a well organized layout of open spaces. The form of the house engages the corner of the public way yet at the same time creates a private courtyard and entertaining space behind the house. The rectangular box is slightly eroded at the corner suggesting the entry to the house. The exterior lattice of wood blurs the public / private boundary. Once inside, the double height entry is filled with light and gives a sense of elegance. Around the corner the kitchen, living and dining rooms fade into the landscape and entertaining spaces beyond. Three bedrooms are located on the top level giving views of the mountains and sunsets. The rooftop deck is another extension of the house, further offering views and vantage points of the city and mountains.
